Magic Kingdom

Guess what happened today?  It rained?  Why would I be so happy about rain you ask?  Because it wasn’t snow!  I am tired of all the snow, and not looking forward to the mud pit that will be my back yard.

I’m looking taking the Rain from today as a sign, a sign that warm weather is on the way, a sign that soon flowers will burst forth from the snow that’s left over, and stretch for the sky, basking in the warmth of the sun.  Know that I (along with most of you I’m sure) will be doing the same.  Why am I so excited?  With nice weather, comes magic, stylized portrait sessions, and one of my favorites, my Fairy Sessions.

This magical transformation happens once a year.  Last year, I was hoping for Fall colors, changing leaves and warm weather.  Michigan had other plans, really and my fairy sessions were a bit cold.  So, to help out my little fairies from holding off the chills, throwing off jackets between poses, I decided to bring the magic kingdom a bit earlier this year.   I’m holding off on the date (because school’s been pushed back & may be pushed a bit more-fingers crossed).

Here is one of my fairies.  She rocked it.

One Girls Story of Survival.

Meet Judith, a warrior.  She is strong, she is beautiful, and she is not yet 16.  Judith has secretes, and I hope one day she’ll let me share them all to you, but as of now, she is shy.  But like every not quite teenage girl we worry a bit to much of how we do or do not look.  Girls with straight hair want curly, girls with curly hair want straight.  Those who are tall want to be shorter, those who are shorter would like to be a tad taller…….

I’m not able to post her Mother’s Reaction to this post. 😦  However, it’s on FB.

A Mother’s Love Portrait Session

Dates at the movies, road trips, and snap shots of this fine never-ending Michigan Winter, all captured with ease of the camera phone, showcasing my adventures with my daughter.

I love photographs, of all kinds (you can see why Portraits are so important to me in this blog post). Recently, I organized my personal photos, picasa is pretty great, this program detects faces, and allows you to tag events. It is pretty great, but it allowed me to realize how little of the snapshots I was in with my daughter. It is definitely accurate to say I am more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it.

These mementos are nice to have. And let’s be honest, they are not the most flattering…… a blank stare, hoping you are able to look natural as you are holding the camera still as possible, hoping, praying that your hand is steady enough as not to blur that one good enough shot.

Oxford Photographer Showcases Cats that need a home.

Top 10 Reasons why you should Adopt a Cat.

#10: No barking. Cats are quiet, very quiet. No barking when the mail man comes, or a leaf blows across your yard.

#9: House Trained. With a litter box, it takes care of those pesky winter walks. Just remember to empty them out.

#8: Easy Going Lifestyle. With cats sleeping about 15 hrs a day, they are purfect for those cold winter days ahead where you can cozy up w/ a good book all day and not feel guilty about it.

#7: They are independent & require little supervision. Not needing to be let outside or go on walks, unless you want to.

#6: Independent but cuddly. They are warm, cozy & make excellent lap& feet warmers, when they want to of course.

#5: No fighting them in the Tub, because they bathe themselves.

#4: Great Hunters. They will help keep your house clear of unwanted pests & laser pointers.

#3: Pre screened. They come with all their vaccines, neutered/spayed and have been checked for heart worms.

#2: Helping you live longer. Having a pet has shown to improve blood pressure, heart disease & petting this lovely feline friend releases good endorphins in the brain.

#1: You are saving a life. Many cats are taken in each year by shelters & 3 to 4 million cats & dogs are eventually euthanized.

Oxford Chamber & the 2013 Women’s Expo

The Women’s Expo is an annual event that helps raise money for McLaren Oakland Foundation Sister & Sister Foundation which allows women who qualify in Oakland County to receive FREE mammograms and follow up care.   With the slogan FIGHT LIKE A GIRL, the Oxford Chamber gathered nominations from the local community for ladies who are fighting like a girl – their own way.

This year we picked 3 beautiful ladies who are incredible, brave & beautiful.   They received teeth whitening, massages, cut/style/hi-lights.  A huge shout-out these local business that prepped, pampered & spoiled these fantastic ladies!  Agless Day Spa, Downtown Salon, Soothe Your Soul, Aurealis Bodywork, Boulevard Boutique & Pam Ziskie.  Of course  a mini photography session by me.

This was crazy hectic.  Ladies were getting their make up done, changing clothes,  & being photographed all with in the bridal suite  at Boulder Pointe Golf Club.  These ladies will receive a 5×7 professional quality print of their individual & their group pose to commemorate what Fighting like a Girl really means.

All I can say is Thank you for your courage, for your allowing me to be a part of documenting your incredible story.

HALLOWEEN TREE IN OXFORD

This post is a bit different from my norm.  I love Halloween!   And this year, since we now have plenty of space and trees (yay) we decided to make a Ghost Tree!   It was easy, simple, and my daughter loved it.

First, your supplies.

1 box of white garbarage bags (dollar store for $1)

1 spool of white ribbon (dollar store for $1)

Giant Christmas bulbs (dollar store for $1 each)

Sharpie & Scissors

Image

Use your scissors to cut a small slit at the top of  the garbage bag.  This is where you slide the bulb string through.

Image

Slip the thread through, then pull the trash bags over the bulb

Image

Use the string to tie the trash bag tight under the bulb.  If you wish, cut long & short slits in the trash bag to create movement.

Image

Draw your face.  You may need to use the ribbon  to extend the hanging portion so it wraps around the tree branch.

And now you have your spooky Halloween Tree!

BTW, did you notice that yellow tint to the photographs in the step by step?  I shot those with my IPHONE which doesn’t allow you to adjust the white balance (like SLR”s, and even most point and shoots these days).  If you are getting a tint to your photos, you can do two things

1) check your manual and find out how to adjust your white balance

2) turn off the lights, and bring in natural light by going outside or close to a window.

This endth the lesson!
